Church Council News

Something to consider: The month we have just completed – July – had 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays.  That happens only once every 823 years! That means that, at most, there have been only 3 such Julys since the birth of Jesus.  What a tiny speck we are in the vastness of God’s time!  And how insignificant our petty concerns seem in this context!

Of more immediate interest to us, however, were these July events:

-        Back by popular demand - the first public baked bean supper of the season!  Sandi Shields and the Women’s Fellowship appreciate the co-operation and help of the entire congregation.

-        An all-church auction that added approximately $1500 to our treasury!  Many thanks to Drew Klein-Robbenhaar and Mike Peavey for heading up this effort and to the many others who contributed to its success.

-        An extraordinary Vacation Bible School!  A sincere thanks to Terry Minihan, Audree Roy, Suzanne Rickard, Mary Yeaton, Alyssa Ratteree, Mary Terril, Joy Gilkey, Joan Wood, Mary Heather Cookson, and “Eunice” (me) for providing a meaningful experience for the children of this church and for sharing it with us in worship on July 31.

July also held its share of sadness as Peter’s health has made it necessary for him to step down as our acting pastor.  We are deeply grateful for the years he has served us, for his friendship and his guidance, for his teaching and his pastoring. Our prayers for restored health will continue to be with him, and we look forward to the opportunity greet him on August 14.

Your Church Council has met and unanimously voted to invite Gordon Miller to serve as our acting pastor.  Gordon has accepted our invitation and will start worshiping with us on August 28.  To begin, he will be in the office a half day each week.  This may be increased as we/he deem necessary.  He will also be on call for special needs.  We appreciate his willingness to minister to us and look forward to working with him.

Faithfully,

Joyce
